Black Doris plums are one of those things that feel properly New Zealand. Dark, a little tart, and only around for a short window if you're lucky enough to get them fresh. This recipe came from a friend, and as soon as she shared it I knew I had to try it — she'd paired Little Pip's Black Doris Plum soda syrup with a chia cream and a base of our toasted muesli with Aglow collagen powder, and it works beautifully. Genuinely a breakfast to look forward to in the morning, and the whole thing takes about five minutes the night before.
Serves: 1 (scales easily)
Ingredients
Base layer:
1/3 cup Te Atatu Toasted Healthy Blend Muesli
1/3 cup plain yoghurt of choice (coconut or dairy—your call)
1–2 teaspoons Little Pips Black Doris Plum soda syrup (optional)
2 teaspoons Aglow collagen powder
Chia cream layer:
2 tbsp chia seeds
½ cup milk
2 teaspoons Little Pips Black Doris Plum soda syrup
Topping:
2 tablespoons little Little Pips Black Doris Plum soda syrup
Halved Black Doris Plums – fresh/frozen or tinned.
Method
The beauty of overnight oats is that the thinking is already done by the time you open the fridge. You just add the plums, sit down, and eat something that actually keeps you going. You could also make this into a breakfast in a jar to take to work and give your work colleagues breakfast envy!
If you try this one, I'd love to know how you found it — especially if you tracked down fresh Black Doris plums. They're worth the effort.
