This crumble is old school scrummy!

At first glance, it looks too simple, but don't be tempted to complicate it and you will be happy with the results.

Ingredients:

1 kg cooking apples

¼ cup caster sugar

¼ cup water

Topping:

¾ cup plain flour

1 cup Te Atatu Toasted Original Blend muesli

1/3 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon baking powder

125g butter melted

 

Method:

Peel, core and slice apples up onto 1.5cm rough cubes, place in a post, sprinkle caster sugar over and add water and cook gently, shaking the pot every so often so they do not stick to the bottom and cook until they collapse.

Place all dry ingredients in a bowl and pour over the melted butter and mix well.

Once the apple is cooked place in a 25 x 20 X 8 oven dish and spoon the crumble over the top. It will be a bit clumpy – but that is fine.

Cook for one hour at 1600C, do not be tempted to cook it at a higher temp or you will burn the top.

Enjoy with yoghurt, custard, cream or ice cream.
